Around the Block: News and Tips from Neighbors
Community Planking
Neighbors from Mountain View and Old Southwest gathered on March 27th for a plawking (picking up litter while walking) event that covered the boundary between those two neighborhoods. They filled five industrial sized bags with litter collected from the streets and sidewalks. Thank you, neighbors, for helping keep our streets clean!
The Renovation Alliance Fundraiser
The Renovation Alliance is an organization that has provided critical and necessary home repairs to over 1,800 low-income homeowners free of charge since 1999. The goal is not only to ensure these residents have safe, dry, and healthy homes, but also to lift the quality of the homes in our community and to preserve existing
affordable housing. The majority of their funding comes from federal grants, which are facing significant cuts. The Renovation Celebration is a fundraiser on May 3 from 9AM-1PM, followed by a block party from 1 PM-4PM at A Few Old Goats on Campbell.
Tickets for the fundraising event (including lunch) are available at: www.renovateall.org/rc2025
The block party is free of charge, but donations are welcome.
It’s Time to Start Your Seeds
The last frost is projected to be in mid-April, so if you're planning a garden, now is the time to start your seeds indoors. Wait until then to start clearing last year's leaves and dead growth from gardens and yards so young sprouts and beneficial insects have cover against these last few weeks of chilly weather.
Game Night at The Way
Neighbors gathered on April 8th at The Way, 414 13th St. for a cozy game night. This was one of the social meetings for the MVNA and we welcomed new neighbors for familyfriendly fun. Social events are held on the second Tuesdays of the even months and are announced about a month in advance.
